Learning from the Past

Carmelita Santiago

Carmelita Santiago offers a unique perspective as both an Afro-Latina and a career switcher. She worked in a civilian capacity at the police department in Washington, DC. Afterward she relocated to Atlanta and became co-owner of a construction cost estimating firm. Through this experience, she developed confidence and realized that she was capable of returning to college as an adult. Mrs. Santiago taught middle school and high school mathematics. Technology was an important part of Mrs. Santiago’s pedagogical practice. She published the article OD.C:Operation Digital. Chalkboard in the January/February 2001 issue of MultiMedia Schools. Today, she is designing the online infrastructure for her tutoring company, AlGeo Math Lab.
