Dr. Christine Darling Thomas

 
 
 

Dr. Christine Darling Thomas was a mathematics classroom teacher for over 14 years and has worked as a leader in mathematics education for over 25 years. Dr. Darling Thomas’ pedagogical practice evolved to be student-centered, transformational, and experiential. As a teacher educator, she supported a cadre of Black teachers of mathematics to continue to deepen their knowledge and skills through workshops, conferences and competitions, to then pass this along to their K-12 students. All of the female oral history participants from the Atlanta region have high regard for Dr. Darling Thomas as their mentor from one-on-one and group professional development sessions, and as their professor in graduate school studies at Georgia State University . Dr. Darling Thomas was the past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. Currently she serves on the Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences for the National Science Foundation.
